Samantha Butterfield, MD
Graduating 2025-2026
Dr. Butterfield was born and raised in Evergreen, Colorado. After completing her undergraduate degree in neuroscience at Tulane University in New Orleans, she earned her medical degree at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Scottsdale, Arizona. She completed her internship at CPMC in San Francisco.
As a child she witnessed her family’s experiences with healthcare as her sister was born with several health conditions. Originally drawn to the opportunities to help and connect with others, her interest in medicine continued to grow as she studied the sciences. Her first experience with ophthalmology was working as a technician for a retina doctor as an undergraduate. She fell in love with the intricacy and complexity of the practice, the beauty of the human eye and the satisfaction of restoring vision.
Dr. Butterfield is honored to be training at CPMC where she can learn from highly skilled ophthalmologists and provide care to a variety of patients from across the Bay Area. In her free time she like to bicycle the hills of San Francisco with her husband and run with her two mini Australian Shepherds.
